About Extreme Pizza

Extreme Pizza at 2360 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94704, is not your average pizza joint—it’s a culinary adventure for those who crave something beyond the ordinary. As part of a growing chain with roots in San Francisco, this Berkeley location brings the spirit of California-style pizza to the East Bay, offering a menu that’s as bold and creative as the extreme sports culture that inspired its founders. Whether you’re looking for a quick lunch, a family dinner, or a late-night snack, Extreme Pizza delivers—literally and figuratively—with a focus on quality, innovation, and a dash of daring.

Founded in 1994 by Todd Parent and Michael Pastor, Extreme Pizza began as a small shop in San Francisco’s Pacific Heights, driven by a passion for both pizza and the thrill-seeking lifestyle of its creators[1][3]. The brand quickly distinguished itself with a commitment to using only the freshest ingredients and a willingness to experiment with unconventional toppings and flavor combinations[5]. This philosophy is alive and well at the Berkeley location, where the menu features not just classic pepperoni and cheese, but also inventive pies like the “Paia Pie” with mandarin oranges, Canadian bacon, pineapple, mozzarella, and cheddar, or the “Baja 1000” with black beans, grilled chicken, olives, onions, cilantro, and cheddar[5]. For those seeking a truly unique experience, there’s even a “Peace in the Middle East” pizza, swapping traditional tomato sauce for homemade hummus and topping it with tomatoes, olives, feta, fresh basil, pepperoncinis, and mozzarella[5]. These creations reflect a kitchen unafraid to push boundaries and a team that views each pizza as a canvas for culinary creativity.

The Berkeley Extreme Pizza is more than just a place to grab a slice—it’s a full-service pizzeria designed for convenience and comfort. The space features a beer bar, several televisions, and ample indoor seating, with plans to expand to outdoor dining for those who prefer al fresco meals[4]. The restaurant caters to a variety of dining preferences, offering dine-in, takeout, delivery, and even “Take & Bake” options for those who want to finish their pizza at home[7]. Delivery is available throughout Berkeley (north of Ashby), Albany, and parts of Emeryville, making it easy for locals to enjoy Extreme Pizza’s offerings without leaving their doorstep[7]. The menu extends beyond pizza to include subs, wings, salads, and a selection of beer and wine, ensuring there’s something for everyone, whether you’re dining solo, with friends, or hosting a group gathering[4].

What truly sets Extreme Pizza apart is its dedication to both quality and customer experience. The chain has been recognized for its enlightened corporate policies and savvy marketing, including early sponsorships of the X Games and a decor that pays homage to extreme sports with photographs of athletes and benches made from snowboards[1]. This ethos is reflected in the Berkeley location’s energetic atmosphere and the staff’s commitment to friendly, attentive service. The restaurant’s hours are designed to accommodate a range of schedules, opening daily at 11:00 am and staying open until 9:00 pm on Sundays and Wednesdays, 10:00 pm on Mondays, 11:00 pm on Tuesdays, and as late as 10:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays[7]. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal, you’ll find a welcoming environment and a team eager to make your visit memorable.

Extreme Pizza’s expansion to Berkeley is a testament to the brand’s enduring appeal and its ability to adapt to new markets while staying true to its roots. The location at 2360 Shattuck Ave. is poised to become a neighborhood favorite, offering a unique blend of California cuisine and pizza tradition. With a phone number—+1 510-280-5441—readily available for orders and inquiries, Extreme Pizza makes it simple to satisfy your cravings, whether you’re in the mood for a classic pie or something more adventurous[7]. In a city known for its culinary diversity, Extreme Pizza stands out by embracing the unconventional, delivering not just food, but an experience that’s as dynamic and vibrant as Berkeley itself.

Extreme Pizza in Berkeley is the best! They have a huge variety of pizzas with lots of veggie options, and their salads are really good too with plenty of choices. The food is always fresh and tasty. Preet gave us the best customer service ever and was super friendly and helpful. Definitely a 10/10 spot for pizza lovers!

I got the vegan chik-n parm sub here and it was AMAZING! They 100% nailed it, zero compromises on flavor or texture. When I was a kid I loved chicken parmesan, but after going vegan, I never thought I'd get to taste something like that again. Guess I was wrong! 😁 Everything about the sub was perfect, from the cheese (which actually pulls apart - I think the brand they used is Violife), to the ample amount of sauce that melts into the breading of the chik-n, to the soft texture of the chik'n itself. It's clear that a lot of thought went into crafting something that is so similar to the non vegan version. Also the portion size was great and the price was great as well! So yea. If you're the type of person who likes places like The Butcher's Son or Wish Me Vegan, the chik-n parm sub here is definitely worth trying. I can't speak to other options on the menu like the vegan wings or pizza though, since I haven't had them yet. The store is in a clean, well-lit segment of Shattuck right next to new apartment developments. The vibe inside seems nice as well and there were a few table + bar seats open when I picked up my order. I will definitely be coming back often for the sub 🙌

Just been to newly renovated location. Very nice staff and good quality pizza. I loved their twists and Peace in the Middle pizza.

FYI - under new ownership and all new interior! If you see a review that's older than March 2025, it's not for the same place. I've been to this place for pizza four times in the last seven days - it's that good! The pizza is great, the beer is good, and the wine, although a limited variety, is also very good. The owner is also amazing and so nice. This is my new go-to pizza place in Berkeley. Try it!
